Elegance: It's not just about the clothes
September 12, 2016
As the lovely Miss Hepburn put it so nicely:
"Elegance is the only beauty that never
fades"
She's not just talking about the fashion
statement of her clothes. Obviously, Audrey Hepburn is not the famed, Victorian-raised
lady that she is because she had excellent style and dress, but checked her
etiquette and mannerisms at the table; of course not. This amazing woman
behaved with all the grace of a princess.
I'm not saying that she was this infallible goddess of earth. We know that from
some of her most memorable performances in Roman Holiday and My Fair Lady this
was clearly not the case. What perfect lady openly spits out growls of distaste
at an innocent bystander for commenting on her poor hygiene or language? Or
loses her blessed shoe when being presented to His Excellency the Papal Nuncio?
Well, in a perfect world…no one.
It was her elegance of mannerisms that Audrey always paired
with her incredibly classy style that makes her stand above all other celebrity
idols. She treated everyone with respect and kindness.
You can be dressed in the prettiest attire from Givenchy,
but if you don’t have the mannerisms to match? You really aren’t doing yourself
a favor. You might as well be pairing that lovely gown with a giant scowl on your
face.
Like fashion? Wonderful. Like to dress up? Even better! But
never forget your accessories. Think of it this way:
You could be dressed in the ugliest sack of rags in the
world, but if you have a kind word for every person you meet, you’re a queen to
every single one of them.
Think of someone you know
with the best manners you could imagine; now try to find a bad word for them.
Can you do it? Pretty hard when this person is known so well for treating
others so kindly, right?
So, I implore you that as
you start your day to make yourself into the most magnificent of sights to
behold that you ALWAYS remember the other half to your fashion: a smile and a heart full
of kindness. Two of the best accessories anyone could adorn themselves with.
Put these on before you
dash out the door and you’re sure to turn heads wherever you go.
